Megan Sherwin

“There are many things that inspire and drive me each and every day, but the one thing that drives me most is to show everyone that I—and other kids like me—can do anything we want.  We just need the opportunity to prove it.”

Megan Sherwin is a person who leads by example. An accomplished athlete, Megan is a decorated veteran of her high school’s Exceptional Athlete Program. She plays soccer, basketball, hockey and as a ten-year National level para-swimmer, Megan competes at the highest levels including provincial, national and Can-Am swim championships.  “I just get things done in a different way,” she says. Megan has her sights set on the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo.  Don’t bet against her—in sports or anything else she sets her mind to.

Toronto journalist Mike Strobel describes Megan as mature beyond her years—but with youthful humour intact.  He first met Megan at a Variety Village fundraiser when she was about 10-years old. Impressed by her ability to command a room, he thought we’ll all be working for that girl someday.

A fieldhouse program instructor, swim instructor and lifeguard at Variety Village, Megan also serves the organization as an Ambassador, guest speaker, media spokesperson, and leadership mentor.

Megan says her ambition is to help people become the best versions of themselves, without any judgement. She’s going to the University of Waterloo, majoring in Recreation and Leisure, to help her make sure she will do just that.
