Ready to submit your abstract? Use this checklist to make sure it's as effective as possible before you send it.

Note: The word “outcomes” is used throughout this worksheet. That is because you need to include outcomes in your abstract. If your project is in process and you don’t have any outcomes yet; consider waiting until the next EKO Spring Symposium in 2027.  

Criteria for abstracts

Basis of inquiry/intro
Are you hooked?

You can identify the problem and rationale for this direction/approach

 

Purpose/objective/aim – do these jump out?

You can clearly state the purpose/objectives/aims
Hint: this needs to be a sentence that jumps out at the reader

 

Methods – what, who, how?

You can clearly state how you did your project and these should relate to the purpose/objective

  • If research project: you can describe design, sample, how you measured outcomes, if there was an intervention, what it was, and how you analyzed results
  • If QI/EBP project: you can explain what you did to change a system (the intervention) and how you measured outcomes
  • If educational project: you can describe the educational intervention, who was focus of intervention, and how learner outcomes were measured

What does it mean?

 

Logically and concisely stated and relate to the objectives/aims and methods

  • If research: Present summary results (outcomes) and  comment on how this may influence nursing practice.
  • If Quality Improvement: Present outcomes of project and  implications for practice
  • If Practice or Education program evaluation: Summarize outcomes of the educational  program
