EKO offers ninth scholarship in 2025 thanks to a generous donation

January 23, 2025

Additional award is dedicated to a student with a communication disorder

Empowered Kids Ontario is proud to announce an additional 2025 EKO Scholarship, dedicated to a student with a speech and/or language disorder. The scholarship is fully supported by a gift from the now dissolved Ontario Association for Families of Children with Communication Disorders (OAFCCD).

“We are grateful that the OAFCCD board and members recognized the EKO scholarship as an opportunity to recognize promising youth,” says Jennifer Churchill, EKO President & CEO. “For several decades the OAFCCD supported families of kids with speech and language disorders. This gift extends their legacy to students who have persistent problems related to speech or use an Augmentative or Alternative Communication system (ACC).”

Thanks to this generous gift, EKO is offering a record nine awards this year. EKO is delighted to dedicate this additional 2025 EKO Scholarship to a young Ontarian who self identifies as having a communication disorder or uses AAC. Like all EKO Scholarships, this award provides $3,000 toward their tuition.

All EKO Scholarships are offered to students incoming or current undergraduate and graduate students enrolled or enrolling in accredited college, university, Indigenous institute, or career training programs for the 2025/26 academic year. Applicants for this particular scholarship must have, at some time, received clinical treatment with an EKO General Member organization, and must self identify as having a communication disorder or use ACC.

The deadline for applications is April 30, 2025.
