Extensive Needs Service program partnerships celebrated at Ron Joyce Children's Centre

May 21, 2024

Last week, Hamilton Health Science’s McMaster Children’s Hospital celebrated the launch of the Extensive Needs Service program community partnerships at the Ron Joyce Children’s Health Centre. The event recognized the establishment of community partners, the growth of program capacity, and the increased access to care for children, youth, and their families across the Hamilton and Niagara regions.

The first-of-its-kind program was launched last year, to be delivered by McMaster Children's Hospital, CHEO and Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital.

Program Highlights

In its first year (April 1, 2023 - March 30, 2024), the Extensive Needs Services Program saw:

  • 39% decrease in family distress
  • 90% decrease in missed school days
  • 80% decrease in ED visits
  • 100% decrease in in-patient visits
