EKO seeks candidates to serve as board directors

April 03, 2024

Empowered Kids Ontario is a dynamic and growing organization dedicated to kids with disabilities and developmental differences and their families living their best lives. EKO seeks diverse and eligible individuals to serve as Board directors. We actively encourage applications from members of traditionally underrepresented communities.

Representing Ontario’s publicly supported child development agencies EKO is the provincial voice for evidence-based policy, programs, and investment in the sector. For almost 50 years, EKO has been advancing the reputation of Ontario’s child development sector and supporting members through thought leadership, advocacy, engagement, learning, and capacity building. We work extensively with government, partners, and the research community to coordinate and encourage the delivery of care in new and innovative ways. EKO is a founding member of the Children’s Health Coalition, a collective of Ontario’s leading children’s health organizations that provide every kind of care kids and families may need.

To supplement the skills and experiences of the current Board and anticipated vacancies, EKO is seeking to fill several positions. Ideal candidates are seasoned individuals with senior-level experience in their field who welcome a collaborative approach.

We are looking for individuals who bring expertise or deep experience in emerging technology (AI/tech, data), strategy, and entrepreneurship. Experience in the broader public sector, specifically in the health system, is of particular interest, as are candidates who bring diversity of living experience to the Board.

EKO strives to live our culture as an organization, and we are recruiting for cultural contribution. We invite candidates from a variety of backgrounds, and encourage perspectives of individuals who identify as Indigenous, Black and People of Colour, Trans, Non-Binary, and LGBTQ+.

Directors join six board meetings per year, including at least one in-person, and consult on matters related to their area of expertise. New directors serve a three-year term beginning in November and may serve one subsequent term. Please note: this is a volunteer position.

EKO invites expressions of interest from those wishing to serve on its Board of Directors.

  • With accessibility and inclusivity top of mind, we welcome your expressions of interest via your preferred format e.g. email, telephone, audio recording or video recording. Please submit these, along with a cv, to jchurchill@empoweredkidsontario.ca
  • Complete the skills matrix survey.
  • The deadline for applications is Friday, June 14, 2024.

EKO’s Board Development & Governance Committee oversees the nominating process and encourages applicants with diverse backgrounds from across Ontario.
