The EKO Spring Symposium includes 30 concurrent session presentations throughout both days of the in-person program. Sessions are presented in a variety of formats designed to facilitate the exchange of ideas and information, adding value for presenters and their audiences.

  • Use plain language—avoid overly technical or clinical jargon to make sure everyone understands what you're trying to convey. The conference brings together professionals and interest holders from across the sector, if everyone in attendance can understand and explain what they've learned, your work and message will be adopted more broadly.
  • Lean in to the "problem-solving sector"—don't hesitate to explicitly state the problem your work is aiming to solve and craft your presentation to answer: What we need to do next.
  • Connect with the audience—position your presentation in ways that best connect with a diverse group of people. Tell the story of what changed, not just what happened; the strongest presentations identify mistakes and lessons that were learned along the way.
  • Take chances—Don't let the fear of perfection keep you from engaging and challenging people as part of your presentation. The best sessions involve novel approaches, two-way communication, sharing and learning.

Choosing How to Present

When submitting your abstract, you were asked to select how you intend to present during your concurrent session. The EKO Spring Symposium Working Group encourages variety and asks you to consider which format best connects the audience with your work.

Remember, novelty and uniqueness are strong components of an effective presentation.

  • Research Presentation (Formal presentation of completed research, with a focus on clinical applicability.)
  • Workshop (This format incorporates exercises and activities to foster structured discussion and uninterrupted ideation.)
  • Family First Conversation (Conversations co-facilitated by a youth or family member with a service provider or researcher.)
  • Panel discussion (Facilitated by a moderator with a group of experts or practitioners.)
  • Solution Room (Participants reflect on how current practice can work differently.)
  • Fireside Chat (Interactive discussion between moderator and guest.)
  • Facilitated Questions & Answer (Participants ask direct questions of the speaker.)
  • Campfire Session (Less structured small-group discussion format.)
