EKO Announces the 2022 EKO Scholars

September 12, 2022

Empowered Kids Ontario is proud to announce the 2022 cohort of EKO Scholars as they take the next steps on their education journey.

This year five EKO Scholars are recognized for their inspirations and plans to share their talents, knowledge and skills. They are honour roll students, experienced advocates, a medal-winning hockey player, a new citizen of Canada, an accomplished musician and cell biology researcher, and a Mattel Toys Role Model.

To be considered for the EKO Scholarship, applicants were asked to describe their career goals and what influenced them. The 2022 award recipients shared the experiences that led them to pursue studies in the sciences, industrial design, social work, early childhood education, and law at Ontario colleges and universities. We look forward to seeing the impact they will make in their chosen fields.

“This year saw a deep field of scholarship applicants on their way to doing great things,” says EKO CEO Jennifer Churchill. “We’re grateful to our scholarship review committee, whose members gave their time to learn about all of our amazing applicants and make some difficult decisions.”

While the 2022 EKO Scholars have different personal interests, academic pursuits and experiences, there is a consistent theme: the strength of young Ontarians who establish personal goals, set high expectations, and choose to contribute in positive ways to society.

“On behalf of the Board and everyone at EKO, we congratulate these students on earning an EKO Scholarship to assist in their education and career pursuits,” says Tom Walters, EKO Chair. “Each of our EKO scholars has a promising future. We wish them success in the classroom and beyond.”

Applications for the 2023 scholarships will open in February.  Click here to learn more about the EKO Scholarship Program.
